I am Ben and I live right across the street from the Red River. I am from North Dakota and work in the technology industry as support staff. I am married to a wonderful lady and have 3 cats and a dog. I was in Fargo during the flood of ’97 as a college student who volunteered his time. Now, I have been payed back tenfold. Not only did the college students pull together to save our city… but EVERYBODY did. Many houses were saved. Some were not.
My house was saved during last year’s flood, but right across the street I see boarded up houses today and several houses on my block have been demolished. It may have been a sign to move when this happened last year, but who would have thought the 500 year flood would even have the remotest possibility of happening two years in a row? Well, we are not even close to that yet, but I am starting to get anxious to see what is going to happen. I think many people are.
Anyhow, I love my neighborhood, the city of Fargo and ALL the surrounding communities. I was very proud of our efforts last year and I hope that if flooding occurs this year, we will perform the same… or better. Let me know at ben@fargoflooding.com if you have any questions or comments.
